Duchenne Heroes is a multi-day mountain biking challenge which took place from 14 to 21 September, that takes participants through tough terrains, with one goal in mind: raising funds to accelerate research and find a cure for DMD, a genetic disorder that progressively weakens muscles, primarily affecting young boys.
This year’s ride was nothing short of extraordinary, with participants pushing their limits to tackle the challenging trails.
We are beyond proud to share that the total amount raised during this year’s event reached an incredible €1.130.000! This massive achievement was made possible by the dedication and hard work of every rider who participated, including Team Go for Gijs and our very own colleague, Bram.
Riding for Gijs and a cure
At eyetec, the fight against Duchenne is personal. Gijs, a 16-year-old boy from Oud-Turnhout, is living with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. His strength and courage inspire us daily, and seeing Team Go for Gijs ride for him and so many others battling this disease was truly moving.
Our colleague Bram took on the challenge of the 3-day mountain bike tour with Team Go for Gijs, riding through the demanding terrain of the Ardennes and South Limburg. Bram’s commitment, alongside the team’s efforts, helped raise crucial funds that will support further research and development of treatments to improve the lives of those affected by Duchenne.
€1.130.000: an incredible amount
The staggering €1.130.000 raised this year represents more than just a number. It symbolizes hope for a future without Duchenne. This funding is essential for advancing research into treatments and finding a cure for this debilitating disease, which progressively weakens the muscles of those who suffer from it.
Bram Keymolen, Compliance Director at eyetec: “We’re honored to support causes like Duchenne Heroes. Seeing the dedication of Team Go for Gijs, and all the other participants reminds us of the power of collective effort. Together, we’re not just raising money - we’re raising hope.”
